A Sweet Legacy: The History of Anderson’s Candies

Candy-making has been a cherished tradition in the Anderson family since 1916, when Harry and Mary Anderson opened their first store on Merchant Street in Ambridge, Pennsylvania. Together with their three children—Elizabeth, Helen, and Harold—they crafted a community staple, offering ice cream, fountain drinks, and what would become their now-famous chocolates and confections.

Passing the Torch to the Next Generation

In 1962, Harry’s son Harold took over the business, continuing the family’s commitment to quality and tradition after his father’s passing. Just two years later, in 1964, the candy-making facility and primary retail outlet were established in Baden, Pennsylvania. This location remains the heart of Anderson’s Candies today.

A Fourth-Generation Legacy

Anderson’s Candies is now a thriving fourth-generation, family-owned business led by Goldie Anderson and her daughters, Pamela and Mary Candace. With Goldie’s eleven grandchildren beginning to take active roles, the Anderson family continues to uphold their legacy of candy-making excellence, ensuring the business thrives for future generations.

A Community Tradition

For decades, Anderson’s Candies has been a part of countless local traditions. Generations of children have sold Anderson’s sweet confections to raise funds for schools and churches, while families flock to the Baden and Ambridge stores during the holidays to pick up specialty gifts and beloved boxes of chocolates. With over a century of experience, Anderson’s Candies continues to deliver candy-making excellence in every luscious bite.
